The Panther Turn: our Defender Tank Turn

Let’s call it the Panther Turn! This first-ever Land Rover Defender tank turn performed by our fully electric Defender Panterra is the result of precise engineering meeting the right conditions. Like everything at The Landrovers, this started as an adventure. And when the weather gods gave us snow for a week, this trip also seemed to have reached its destination. So, we proudly present: The Panther Turn

“We have always known that this tank turn would be technically possible,” says Frank Tijs, Co-owner and co-founder at The Landrovers. “Achieving this Panther Turn now is a genuine milestone for our company, and a reward for the team that brought it to life. It confirms our ambition to be a driving force in this field,” Frank continues. “Where this ultimately leads us is still unfolding. That is precisely what makes this meaningful.”

At the core of the Defender Panterra is our in-house developed drivetrain with four independently controlled in-wheel motors. While the system delivers substantial power, its true strength lies in control: complete authority over how torque is distributed to each wheel. With our brutal 200kwh battery pack– that gives our Defender Panterra 375 mile range – and the high-grip tires, we found the ideal circumstances.

On snow, where imbalance is immediately exposed, the system demonstrated its capability. The electric Defender Panterra rotated cleanly on its own axis, driven by precise torque vectoring and made possible only through the full independence of all four wheels.

“The Panther Turn with our Defender was not programmed as a gimmick; it emerged from the adventure which we embarked on when we started the Panterra project.” concludes Frank Tijs.

Engineering adventure

Behind this achievement is our dedicated engineering team, whose work spans years of development, testing, and refinement. For us, the significance lies not only in what the Panterra drivetrain can do, but in the depth of understanding what made this possible.

The Panterra remains, above all, a Defender. Its character is intact and its proportions unchanged. What has evolved lies beneath: a level of power and control that quietly extends what a Defender from The Landrovers is capable of.

Important Note

The demonstration of this tank turn was carried out exclusively on private terrain under controlled conditions. A Panther Turn is strictly forbidden on public roads and is shown solely as a technical demonstration of The Landrovers Panterra’s engineering capabilities. The Panter Turn will not be an option for customers yet.
